“…Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves, and present an offering made to the Lord by fire. Do not work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the Lord your God.”
L e v i t i c u s 2 3 : 2 7 - 2 8
In the middle of The DC Awakening the Feast of Yom Kippur or the “Day of Atonement” occurs. This is the most sacred and holy day on the Jewish calendar and was instituted by God in Leviticus 23. It was a time for the Jewish people to come together in prayer, fasting, repentance and desperately seek God for atonement for their sins.
This year Yom Kippur falls on October 9th, right in the midst of The DC Awakening. We do not believe this was by accident or mistake but was orchestrated by a sovereign God to call the Church to humility and repentance on the eve of our national elections.
Throughout history, God has always called His people to a season of fasting, intercession and repentance before sending revival or awakening. It is critical for Christians to realize that America stands on the edge of God’s judgement because of the apathy, indifference and sinfulness of God’s people.
In other words, there can be no national spiritual awakening without massive repentance by the Church. Simply stated, we are the problem!
Scripture is abundantly clear on the need for repentance by God’s people as the pathway for revival and restoration:
“But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers their treachery against me and their hostility toward me…I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.”
.Leviticus 26: 40,42.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
.2 Chronicles 7:14.
“…If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations; but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from here and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.”
.Nehemiah 1:8,9.
“Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
.Isaiah 55:6-7.
“They will return to it and remove all the vile images and detestable idols. I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people and I will be their God.”
.Ezekiel 11:18-20.
“Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn, and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up.“
.James 4:9-10.
In the spirit of Joel 2:12-17, we are issuing a national call to come to Washington, D.C. for Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement on October 8th and 9th. There is no more appropriate and powerful place to repent of our national sins then on the lawn of the United States Capitol and before the steps of the United States Supreme Court.
The Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement Solemn Assembly will begin on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00 PM on the west lawn of the Capitol building. On Thursday, October 9th at 9:00 AM we will move the Solemn Assembly to the Supreme Court.
In front of the United States Supreme Court, we will spend an extended time repenting and seeking God’s mercy for our two greatest national sins: Abortion and Slavery/Racism.
We humbly ask that you diligently seek the Lord about being involved in this historic and life-changing event. We are praying that thousands of Christians will come out in repentance and cry out for God’s forgiveness and healing.
