OBEY. ENGAGE. UNLEASH!

The foundation for the DC Awakening

1 Kings 18:16-39

Perhaps the two most critical questions Christians need to answer in this hour are: “What is God doing?” and “How is the Church supposed to respond?”

As believers it is not up to us to make our plans and put together our agenda and ask God to bless them. Rather, we are to passionately seek God and determine what His plans and purposes are and yield to the moving of the Holy Spirit. In the words of Dr. Richard Owen Roberts the Church must, “find out what God is doing, and jump on board.”

In response to those two questions, we believe God has spoken three words to the Church. They are: obey. engage. unleash! God is calling Christians to a place of radical obedience and surrender to Christ. As we obey, the Holy Spirit is telling the Church to step into the purposes of God and engage culture on every level.

As Christians obey God and engage culture, we will then see the power of God unleashed and His fire and glory fall on every aspect of society! God has given us 1 Kings 18:16-39 and the story of Elijah as the foundation text for The DC Awakening.

In the Scriptures, Elijah first radically obeys God and builds an altar in 1 Kings 18:32. However, he did not build the altar in private. Rather, he engaged culture, called the people together and built the altar in the public square on Mount Carmel. Finally, after Elijah obeyed God and engaged culture, God’s power is unleashed and fire falls dramatically from heaven in 1 Kings 18:38-39.

Here is the incredible description from that scene:

“Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, ‘The Lord- he is God! The Lord- he is God!’.”

In response to this prophetic call, God is calling the Church to the west lawn of the United States Capitol this October 5-11. Like Elijah, we are building a public altar through The DC Awakening and believing the fire of God will fall on our nation’s capital and spread like a raging wildfire throughout the country.

“Dear God, send your fire and ignite a spiritual awakening! We have no hope but You and we cry out for Your mercy and grace. As in the days of Elijah, unleash your glory so all the people may know that you are the sovereign Lord God.”
